While mostly known as an instrument builder, my journey into art, self expression, hand skills and craftsmanship began with painting. As an art college graduate I strayed from the subjective world of painting to pursue a more structured trade of instrument building.

After 20 years of focusing solely on my craft and vision as a guitar maker, I felt inspired to revisit my roots in large scale painting. What once seemed a lawless, immeasurable endeavor, now offered freedom of personal expression that had been stifled and dormant. I discovered a new sense of solace and relief in the act of painting that I could not previously harness in my youth.

Most paintings are large in scale, as full body movement and range of motion is integral to the process. Concepts are stream of consciousness, marks are left where they lay or covered in time, but never labored over. Each painting is an artifact of an experience, showing the work of meditative problem solving through personal symbolism and free association.
